The annual Sydney Malaysian Games (SMG) where each Malaysian student organisation from each of the Sydney based universities, take part in a friendly (but heated) sports competition, went ahead on the Saturday 17th September at the Alpha Badminton Centre in Silverwater, this year in the form of the Sydney Malaysian Badminton Cup. As the name implied, this years SMG was a more focused event with players competing for the coveted title and winners trophies and medals.
The matches were particularly fierce and enjoyable to watch, especially as some games were so evenly matched that it was literally up in the air as to who would emerge victorious. The free food (nasi lemak) and drinks available really tied the whole event together, keeping players and volunteers well fed and motivated.
Congratulations to all the teams and players, all of whom put on a respectable show. Also, shoutout to all the event organisers and volunteers that put in the work throughout the majority of the day as well as those that came to spectate and support. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you again next time.
